Instituto CEASA

What is Instituto CEASA?

A humanitarian project founded by Bairo Leandro Gonzalez Martinez to turn surplus from the CEASAs into food that lasts two years without a refrigerator.

Instituto CEASA is the most recent humanitarian project founded by Bairo Leandro Gonzalez Martinez. The proposal is to make use of the food surplus from Brazil's wholesale food markets, the CEASAs, and process it in its own plant, in an autoclave, to produce food with a shelf life of up to two years without refrigeration, for those in need.

The idea behind it

Bairo sums up the goal in one sentence: to make hunger stop being the problem. The logic is to bring together two ends that do not meet today. On one side, fresh food left over at the wholesale markets that goes to waste. On the other, people who do not have access to enough food. The plant is the link: it turns what would spoil in a few days into meals that can be stored and distributed without refrigeration.

Its place in the ecosystem

Instituto CEASA springs from the same source as CEASA Bank: the wholesale food markets, for which Bairo designed his financial platform for agribusiness. If CEASA Bank takes care of the transaction between those who sell and buy, the institute takes care of what is left over.

In the three-layer view of the ecosystem, the plant is part of the physical layer, the one that gives the whole real backing. The project is a separate initiative, with a humanitarian purpose, and not a business line of the other companies.
