Bankruptcy
- What to do when you've gone broke?
Stop the bleeding, list what you owe, protect your household basics and negotiate calmly. Going broke is a fact, not a verdict on who you are.
- My company went bankrupt: now what?
Before closing, see an accountant and a lawyer: judicial or out-of-court reorganization, or an orderly wind-down. Closing badly costs more.
- How to close a company with debts?
With an accountant: list the debts, tell your team, deregister formally, negotiate the rest. Closing with debt is possible; abandoning it is worse.
- How to deal with the shame of going broke?
Separate what you did from who you are, tell the truth to the people who matter and act again. Shame shrinks when the story is told with dignity.
- The company went under: what about the employees?
Speak early and truthfully, put wages and severance first and hand over the unemployment insurance documents. People come before suppliers.
Eviction
- How to face an eviction?
In Brazil, eviction only happens by court order. Talk to the landlord, keep your receipts, know your deadlines and go to the Public Defender now.
- I received an eviction lawsuit: what do I do?
Read the summons, note the date and see the Public Defender that same day. There are usually 15 days to pay the debt and stay, or to defend yourself.
- I was evicted: where do I go and how do I start over?
Secure a place to sleep tonight, keep your documents, go to the CRAS and your support network, then think about the next rental. One step at a time.
Failure
- How to overcome failure?
Grieve, write down the lesson, take one small concrete step and don't decide your whole life on your worst day. Failure is an event, not an identity.
- How to deal with professional failure?
Separate your career from your worth, take stock of what you can do and turn the experience into an argument. Every solid career has its falls.
- I've tried many times and nothing worked. Now what?
See what each attempt left, change one variable at a time and spend less time on the ground. Many falls don't prove incapacity; they can be preparation.
- How to stop feeling like a failure?
Distrust the voice that generalizes, note small wins, talk to someone and get help if the sadness doesn't pass. Feeling like a failure isn't being one.
Debt
- How to get out of debt?
List all you owe, stop taking on new debt, tackle the highest interest first and accept only installments that fit. No shortcut, just method.
- How to negotiate overdue debts?
Know what you can pay before calling, ask for a discount and time, compare offers, never accept an installment that doesn't fit, get it in writing.
- I'm over-indebted: what does the law say?
Brazil's Law 14,181/2021 lets you gather creditors, set a plan of up to 5 years and keep the minimum to live on. Go to Procon or the Public Defender.
- Debts keeping you up at night: what to do?
Get the debt out of your head and onto paper, pick one step for tomorrow, talk to someone, and get help if anguish turns to despair. You are not your debt.
- How to get out of debt on a low income?
Protect the essentials, claim the benefits you're entitled to, negotiate minimum installments and grow your income bit by bit. Slow still gets there.
Starting over
- How to start over from zero?
Accept your starting point, secure the basics, start close to home with what you know and measure progress in weeks, not days. Zero is ground too.
- Starting over after 40: work, family and money
Starting over after 40 with bills and kids: new work, an age-proof résumé, savings and health. For starting a business at that age, see the other guide.
- How to start over after losing everything?
First survive, then stabilize, only then rebuild. Separate what was lost from what remained, and count what remained: it is bigger than it looks.
- How to reinvent yourself professionally?
Find what you can do that's valuable elsewhere, test the new field small before you leap, and use each earlier phase as a tool.
Fear
- How to beat the fear of starting over: 7 practical steps
Name the fear, work out the real worst case, shrink the next step and act before you feel ready. Courage is acting while afraid.
- How to deal with fear of the future?
Separate what depends on you from what doesn't, take care of today, build small reserves and limit the flood of news. The future is made now.
- How to find the courage to take risks?
Risk what you can lose, not what you can't. Set the limit first, test small, decide with data and accept that courage is a decision, not a feeling.
Loneliness
- Loneliness in a crisis: what to do now
Ask for help specifically, seek communities and services that welcome you, and keep a routine. Deep loneliness deserves care: no one gets through alone.
- No one believes in me: what do I do?
Separate useful criticism from dismissal, prove it on a small scale, seek out people who know the field and don't let a lack of support become giving up.
Immigration
- How to start life over in another country?
Documents in order, the language, a support network and a job that pays the bills. In Brazil, the Migration Law guarantees rights to newcomers.
- Undocumented in Brazil: how to get legal and find help
Migrating is not a crime in Brazil. See the Federal Public Defender and the Federal Police to regularize; health care and school are rights before that.
- The company kept my passport: what do I do?
Withholding a worker's documents is prohibited in Brazil. Ask for them back in writing; go to the Public Defender, the MPT, the Federal Police or Dial 100.
Faith
- How to have faith when everything goes wrong?
Faith doesn't require feeling certain; it requires going on. Seek community, hear those who made it through, and pair faith with one practical step a day.
- How to find hope at rock bottom?
Look for one small reason for today, talk to someone, remember what you've been through and ask for help if hope disappears. The bottom is ground too.
- How to unite faith and work in a crisis?
Faith gives strength; work gives shape. Ask for wisdom, understanding and courage, then do your part with discipline, one day at a time.
Purpose
- How to find my purpose in life?
Purpose is found by doing: notice what moves you and which pain of others you understand, then test it small. It isn't a revelation; it's a direction.
- How do I discover my best self?
Picture in detail who you want to be, compare it with who you are today and choose one habit that closes the gap. Your best self is a path, not a product.
- How to turn pain into purpose?
First tend the wound; then ask what it taught you and who still suffers the same pain. Purpose is born when your pain becomes service to others.
Decision
- How to make a difficult decision?
Write down the options, the real cost of each and what you value; set a deadline, decide, then stand by the choice. Not deciding is a decision too.
- Give up or keep going: how do you know?
Keep going if there's progress and you learn each time; change if you repeat the same mistake. Sometimes giving up one way is persisting in the dream.
- Drop everything and start over: how to decide?
Before dropping everything, test the new life small, build a reserve and talk to those who depend on you. Big change needs a bridge, not a leap.
Silence
- How to find silence in the noise: a practical guide
Create small islands of silence in your day: phone away, minutes without stimulus, a walk, prayer or slow breathing. Silence is a practice, not a place.
- How to calm your mind in the middle of chaos?
Breathe slowly, name what you feel, reduce stimuli and focus on the next step. If the anxiety doesn't pass, go to a UBS, a CAPS or call CVV at 188.
- How to listen to your own intuition?
Go quiet to listen, write down what you feel before deciding, check intuition against facts and track your hits. Intuition is experience speaking softly.
- How to disconnect to think clearly?
Block out screen-free time, tell those who need to know, keep a notebook handy and return with a written decision. Disconnecting clears the signal.
Innovating through pain
- How to innovate in the middle of pain and crisis?
Pain shows you the problem no one has solved. Look at what hurt you, ask who else suffers from it and test a small solution.
- How to turn a crisis into an opportunity?
Stabilize first; then notice what changed in the market, what people now need and what you learned. Opportunity is a way of looking, not luck.
- Creating something new without money: idea to prototype
To get a new idea off the ground without capital: a handmade version, a test with a few people, incubators and public grants you don't pay back.
- They said my idea won't work: how to react to the no
Just heard your idea won't work? What to do in the next 48 hours: write it down, don't react on impulse, ask for the reason and test it.
Partnership and betrayal
- My partner pushed me out of the company: what do I do?
Keep your documents, read the articles of association, sign nothing in the heat of the moment and see a corporate lawyer. You may be owed your share.
- A partner's betrayal: the part the law can't fix
A partner's betrayal hurts the cash flow and your trust. How to tend the hurt, stop replaying the scene and trust again; the legal steps are elsewhere.
- How to choose a partner after a disappointment?
Don't shut the door on partnerships: use the wound as a criterion. Shared values, a checked record, a small test and everything in writing, exit included.
- I helped and they left me hanging: how to deal with it?
Acknowledge the hurt, don't turn help into debt, adjust your limits and keep being who you are. Your decisions can't depend on anyone's gratitude.
Family
- How to support your family after going broke?
Protect housing and food, find immediate income, use the social rights available and bring the family into the plan. Pride can wait; children can't.
- How to tell your family you've gone broke?
Pick a calm moment, tell the facts without dressing them up, present the plan and ask for concrete help. The secret weighs more than the truth.
- How to start life over with a young child?
Secure routine and care for the child, use your support network and social rights, and take smaller steps. A child is not a brake; it's a reason.
Persistence
- How not to give up on your dreams?
Give the dream a concrete shape, break it into weekly steps, shield it from the wrong opinions, and change the road without dropping the direction.
- How many attempts until it works?
There's no magic number. Count what each attempt taught you, not how many failed. Stop when you repeat the same mistake; keep going while you're learning.
Starting without knowing how
- Starting a business with no experience when you must
Lost your job and must start a business now, with no experience? Start with what you know, sell before investing, mind your benefits and avoid costly debt.
- How to learn technology from scratch after 30?
Pick a real problem to solve, study a little every day, use free courses and AI tools as a teacher. Adults learn best by doing.
- How to open a business after going broke?
Sort out old debts, understand what caused the fall, start smaller and with cash, formalize properly and choose partners well. The lesson is capital.
Time
- How to make up for lost time?
The time that passed won't come back, but what it taught you stays. Stop counting lost years and protect the hours ahead as your most precious asset.
- Is it too late to start over?
Almost never. The clock that scares you belongs to others. Look at the time you still have, not what's gone, and start with something that fits this week.
