Not in the regulatory sense. CEASA Bank is the brand of a financial platform for agribusiness, founded by Bairo Leandro Gonzalez Martinez, that offers services on the infrastructure of an institution authorized to operate by the Central Bank of Brazil. The word "bank" is part of the brand name, and does not describe a banking license of its own.
Why the difference matters
In Brazil, financial institutions may only operate with authorization from the Central Bank, as set out in Law 4.595/1964. Many technology companies offer accounts, cards and payments without being banks: they use the structure of an authorized institution, in a model known as banking as a service. That is the model under which the CEASA Bank platform operates.
The Brazilian company that operates the brand has CNPJ 33.809.587/0001-33 and its registered corporate name includes the words technology, infrastructure and digital assets. The main activity registered with Brazil's Federal Revenue Service is that of a debit card operator.
What this means for users
For the trader or the producer, what matters is knowing who holds the money and who answers for each service. On a platform of this kind, accounts and payments fall under the rules of the authorized partner institution, and the platform takes care of the technology, the pricing and customer service.
This site uses the word "bank" only as part of the brand name. When it describes the service, it says "financial platform for agribusiness."
