The line "He did see it. That's why it's here" is attributed to Mike Vance, former creative director at Disney. At the opening of Walt Disney World, on October 1, 1971, someone lamented that Walt had not lived to see the park, and Vance answered that he had seen it. The story opens the path of Bairo Leandro Gonzalez Martinez.
The dated facts
- December 15, 1966: Walt Disney dies, almost five years before the Florida park opens.
- October 1, 1971: Walt Disney World opens, with the Magic Kingdom. The project was carried through by his brother, Roy O. Disney.
- October 25, 1971: Roy O. Disney reads the park's dedication plaque, honoring Walt's philosophy and life.
Vance's anecdote has no recording from the time. He told it in talks and books, such as Think Out of the Box (1995), and many authors repeated it afterward. The honest way to cite it is "the story goes" or "according to Mike Vance." It was not Walt who answered: he had already died.
Why the line opens Bairo's story
On October 1, 2026, 55 years after the park opened, Bairo Leandro Gonzalez Martinez chose that date to symbolically mark the beginning of his ecosystem. He does not ask to be compared with Disney. He says only that, if he could speak to Walt, he would tell him that his dreams inspired him.
The idea he keeps from the anecdote is simple: first someone sees, then the world confirms.
