The sun is for everyone

The new beginning had a neighborhood address. With his partner, when their daughter was born, Bairo opened a salon.

It didn't work out as well as they had hoped. But it worked out very well in another way.

The course that came before the name

Out of the salon grew an idea bigger than the salon. Bairo created a course in hair treatments, on caring for the hair and the scalp.

Today the field has a name of its own, trichology, with graduate programs at respected health schools, and hair treatments have become a market. Back then, it was just an immigrant with a handout and a conviction.

An immigrant father

There is a calculation every immigrant father makes in silence. His daughter is born in a country that is not yet entirely his, in a language that is not yet entirely his. She will belong here. He has to make the journey worth it.

That calculation changes a man's urgency. Before, a mistake cost him. Now, a mistake cost someone else too. Bairo did not shrink the size of his ideas because of it. He shrank the time he allowed himself to stay down after each fall.

Too early

Then came an idea that sounded like fiction. Bairo wanted to bring artificial intelligence and augmented reality into the business. People said it wouldn't work.

He believed. And, even believing, he gave up.

Years later, the very same thing became a trend. Seen from afar, that is called vision. Lived up close, you learn that arriving too early also means arriving alone.

The first lesson

It wasn't a defeat. It was an expensive lesson. Being right ahead of time doesn't pay the bills, but it shows the eye is true. Bairo kept both: the pain of having given up, and the proof that he had seen far.

Next time, he decided, he would not stop at the first answer.

And the next time was waiting in another city, the city where his daughter had been born.
